What Happens After You Receive an ITA?

Receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) is one of the most important steps in Express Entry—but it is not the final stage.
Once an ITA is issued, candidates must submit a complete permanent residence application within a strict 60-day deadline.
Step 1: Document preparation
After receiving an ITA, you must gather all required documents, including:
- Identity documents
- Language test results
- Educational Credential Assessment (if required)
- Employment reference letters
- Police certificates
- Medical exam results
Consistency is critical at this stage.
Step 2: Submitting the application
The application must be submitted within 60 days. If not, the ITA expires automatically.
There are no extensions or exceptions.
Step 3: IRCC review process
Once submitted, IRCC begins processing your application, including:
- Verification of work experience
- Document validation
- Security and background checks
- Medical admissibility review
Step 4: Additional requests
IRCC may request additional documents or clarification during processing.

Step 5: Final decision
If approved, you will receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR), allowing you to become a permanent resident of Canada.
