Secure a Super Visa by demonstrating strong ties

Secure a Super Visa by demonstrating strong ties

(3-4 min estimated read time)

Obtaining a Super Visa can seem straightforward on paper, but for many applicants, especially retired parents and grandparents, proving ties to their home country can be tricky.

This case demonstrates how careful preparation and creative documentation can lead to a successful outcome, even when formal evidence is limited.

CASE SCENARIO:

Showing strong ties for retired applicants with an active family business

Our clients, a married couple in their late 60s and early 70s from Brazil, wanted to visit their Canadian-born grandchildren and son under the Super Visa program.

Though they had previously been refused a temporary visa many years ago, their situation had since changed:

  • They owned and actively managed a banana farm for over 30 years.
  • They maintained strong family connections in Brazil beyond the son sponsoring them in Canada.
  • They had solid financial capacity and health insurance coverage for their stay in Canada.

Given that retirees often have fewer formal employment ties, our team had to think outside the box to prove their strong connections to their home country.

Why a strong home country ties strategy was key

IRCC assesses Super Visa applications based on ties to the home country, financial support, and intent to return. In this case, the challenge was demonstrating that the applicants would return home, despite being retired:

  • Economic & Business Ties
The couple’s banana farm was their primary source of income and required ongoing supervision. To demonstrate this, we submitted:
  • Photographs of farm operations
  • Purchase receipts and accounting reports
  • Employee records showing active farm management
  • Family Ties
The applicants had other children and grandchildren residing in Brazil. We included letters from family members confirming the ongoing care, support, and daily responsibilities that required the applicants’ presence.
  • Community & Health Ties

Membership in local cooperatives, public health insurance, and long-term residency documents showed deep integration into Brazilian society.

Together, this evidence painted a compelling picture that the applicants had strong incentives to return to Brazil after they visited Canada.

What Documents Made the Difference

  • Proof of farm ownership and operation
  • Cooperative membership certificates and employee records
  • Property ownership documents
  • Medical insurance and upfront medical exams
  • Sponsor’s proof of financial capacity and invitation letters
  • Evidence of regular communication between the applicants and the sponsor

Each piece of evidence was tied directly to IRCC’s Super Visa requirements, showing financial stability, genuine intent to return, and strong family connections.

The Result: Approval in less than one month

Thanks to a clear, well-documented application that highlighted both the applicants’ ties to Brazil and their legitimate temporary purpose in Canada, the Super Visa was approved in under one month, a remarkably fast decision for retirees with prior refusals.

This approval allowed the applicants to spend quality time with their Canadian grandchildren while confidently maintaining their lives and responsibilities at home.
